Exclusive: TIFF 2025: Ryan Reynolds Shares Lesson Learned From John Candy on People Pleasing
Spotted: Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively‘s son wreaking a little havoc.
The Deadpool star revealed that he and the Gossip Girl alum’s 2-year-old son Olin has been quite the challenge to parent compared to their three daughters: James, 10, Inez, 9, and Betty, 6.
“Three girls—just so easy,” Ryan quipped during an Oct. 9 appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. “And then the boy, who’s gotta break everything.”
He continued, “I’m, like, in direct competition with this young man.”
In fact, the Free Guy actor hilariously confessed that he might not have been open to adding a fourth addition to his family had circumstances been different.
“If I had, like, three boys at first,” Ryan said, “I would never. There’s no way. I would give myself a punching vasectomy. There’s no way I would allow that to happen.”
Indeed, the 48-year-old has previously gotten candid about how much he loves being a girl dad.
“I have three daughters, which I never in a million years would have imagined,” Ryan told Access in 2020. “I come from all boys. I have three older brothers. I’m the youngest of four boys so for me to have three daughters has just been such a ride and I love every second of it.”
But that’s not to say raising daughters hasn’t come without its challenges. As Ryan put it in a 2021 interview on This Morning, “They’re like little Rubik’s Cubes that you can never figure out!”

Still, despite any difficulties that may arise from raising all four of their mini-mes, the Marvel star believes he and Blake are doing a pretty good job as parents.
“They’re already very much in touch with gratitude and understanding the world enough to have a strong sense of empathy,” Ryan told The Hollywood Reporter in December 2024. “Those are the things that I would think [would indicate] we’re doing an OK job—if our kids can empathize with other people and other kids.”
