SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The family of a victim who died in a plane crash in San Diego earlier this year has filed a lawsuit against the estate of a music executive who also died in the crash.
Six people died when a Cessna Citation S550 crashed in the Murphy Canyon community of San Diego on May 22, authorities stated.
The plane had departed from Teterboro Airport in Teterboro, New Jersey and landed at Colonel James Jabara Airport in Wichita, Kansas the day before. On May 22, it was headed for Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in San Diego.
However, the plane never made it to the destination and crashed in Murphy Canyon.
At the time of the crash, the plane had been piloted by David Shapiro, a music executive who was among those killed when it went down. It was owned and operated by The Daviator LLC.
On Tuesday, Sept. 30, the family of one of the other victims, Celina Kenyon, 36, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against The Daviator LLC and the estate of Shapiro, plus The Velocity Empire LLC and Sound Talent Group LLC — all owned by Shapiro.

The lawsuit was filed by Ross Kenyon and his and Celina’s daughter, a minor who is identified only as L.K., alleging the defendants were negligent in flying the aircraft despite knowing of the adverse weather conditions at the time of the crash.
They also alleged that the defendants failed to ensure Shapiro was “competent, qualified, rested and sufficiently informed” for the flight.
In their complaint, the plaintiffs requested recovery for damages including but not limited to financial support, funeral and related expenses as well as the “loss of love, care, comfort, society, companionship and support” left in Celina Kenyon’s absence.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office also named the other victims who died in the crash as Dominic Damian, 41, Emma Huke, 25, and Kendall Fortner, 24. Daniel Williams, who played for The Devil Wears Prada from 2005 to 2015, was also believed to be among the victims, according to Tandem Management Company.
Several others on the ground were injured, and a home and 20 vehicles were damaged.
