SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A Rancho Bernardo coffee shop owner is warning other small businesses after burglars broke into his café early Monday morning, causing thousands of dollars in losses.

Surveillance video shows two suspects targeting Compa Coffee Roasters around 12:30 a.m., according to owner Dylan Redmond. The shop, located near Interstate 15 and Rancho Bernardo Road, has been open for about two years.

Redmond said the burglars first tried to knock down a surveillance camera with a hammer before ripping it from the wall. They then broke into a lock box containing a delivery key and gained access to the back office, where they stole cash, electronics and point-of-sale equipment.

“They took all of the money that we had from deposits the last week, any cash that we had on hand, took some electronics, point of sale systems, camera stuff — it was a mess in there,” Redmond said.

He estimated the loss and damages at about $5,000. While one suspect kept his mask on, the other’s mask slipped during the break-in, partially exposing his face on video. Redmond hopes someone will recognize him.

“We’d love to stop this from happening to other small businesses in the area,” Redmond said. “Watch each other’s backs, talk to people about anything suspicious out there.”

Anyone with information is asked to call San Diego Crime Stoppers.
