SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Construction will be starting soon for Avalon Mission Valley, a new residential and retail development.

Avalon Mission Valley is a part of SDSU Mission Valley’s multi-use development project that features an Innovation District, housing, a 400-room hotel, retail and more than 80 acres of community parks and open space.

The residential area will consist of 18 buildings and around 4,600 residential units for students, faculty, staff and the public, according to the university.

The construction of Avalon Mission Valley will impact parking at Snapdragon Stadium this week: a portion of the Orange Lot will be fenced off and no longer serve as parking.

SDSU Mission Valley’s Innovation District will include roughly 1.6 million square feet of office, technology and research space as it aims to expand the university’s educational, research, entrepreneurial, and technology programs and supporting community engagement.

Snapdragon Stadium and SDSU Mission Valley River Park, which have already been built, are also products of the project.
