SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI)– The USS Midway Museum will be ringing in its 80th birthday in style Saturday by hosting its annual Multi-Cultural Celebration alongside the festivities.

For the fourth consecutive year, the decommissioned vessel will host the events on the same day. The festivities take place Sept. 6, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Even though the USS Midway’s actual birthday is Sept. 10, it doesn’t hurt to ring in the bash early.

The celebration is free to the public and was coordinated by the Midway Community Engagement Committee.

The museum’s hangar deck will transform into a vibrant dance floor with local musicians, singers and dancers representing a diverse range of cultures, including Hispanic, Asian, African American, and Middle Eastern, who will be performing.

The musical lineup includes:

In addition to the festive tunes, the Midway will celebrate its 80th birthday with a special birthday cake and cupcakes for guests.

What was once the longest-serving aircraft carrier of the 20th century, the USS Midway was commissioned in September 1945 and was named after the Battle of the Midway of World War II.

The vessel was decommissioned in San Diego on April 11, 1992, and officially opened as the USS Midway Museum in June 2004, becoming a staple of America’s Finest City ever since.
