SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI)– Officials with the Oceanside Fire Department confirmed Wednesday evening, around 6:53 p.m., they received several calls from North County residents reporting an oil-like odor emitting throughout multiple cities, including Vista and Oceanside.

The Oceanside Fire Department says it is similar to an odor that was reported last year, and multiple fire departments in the county are working together to monitor the situation.

According to the department, the odor is not life-threatening.

“The City is aware of a petroleum-like odor coming off the ocean and into our community, as well as in nearby cities. We’re working closely with neighboring jurisdictions, County Health Dept., and Air Pollution Control District to monitor,” Officials with the City of Carlsbad said in a social media post.

The department is directing the public to contact the San Diego Air Quality Pollution Control at 858-586-2650 with any complaints.
