Dezeen Showroom: Canadian brand Luum Textiles has put a contemporary spin on classic patterns found in menswear design with Unified Field, its latest collection of performance fabrics.
Designed by the brand’s former creative director Suzanne Tick, Unified Field presents six upholstery textiles based on dapper apparel patterns such as argyle, stripes and houndstooth.
These are infused with an approach to colour that Luum Textiles describes as “joyful”. This is particularly visible in Forward Motion, a bold stripe pattern, which combines five hues and varying thicknesses to achieve a dynamic look.
Unified Field also includes block colour options that pair well with its patterns. Stability is Luum’s solid colour offering, while Surface Level has a boucle texture, and Subtle Stria features a complex melange of colour created from different types of yarn.
Forward Motion, Stability and Subtle Stria are all made using recycled fibres, predominantly recycled wool but in the case of Subtle Stria also recycled acrylic and polyester.
Unified Field also includes a coated textile named Perfect Balance that can be easily cleaned. It has a houndstooth pattern and a textured look created by a woven underlayer.
