Dezeen Showroom: plump cushions contrast with angular wooden frames in this armchair and bench duo, created by Dutch design studio Studio Truly Truly for Australian brand DesignByThem.
Studio Truly Truly set out to create a dialogue between strength and softness in the Press seating collection for Designbythem, focusing on giving the pieces an engaging, sculptural quality.
“For a long time we have been interested in sculpting upholstery with a simple gesture of pressure,” said Studio Truly Truly founders Joel Booy and Kate Booy.
“In the Press pieces, we explore this theme with the involvement of wood, which lends a functional and aesthetic visual play,” they continued. “The softness of the upholstery is exaggerated by the brutality and rigidity of the timber. This juxtaposition is key to the drama of the collection.”
The Press pieces have a generous seat depth for comfort and French seamed cushions for an elevated finish.
The armchair and bench are made from FSC-certified solid oak wood and available in a curated selection of Kvadrat and Maharam fabrics.
