An arson investigation is underway in Escondido after a brush fire broke out near a hotel by the 15 freeway on Sunday afternoon.

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — An arson investigation is underway in Escondido after a brush fire broke out by a hotel near the 15 freeway on Sunday afternoon, Escondido Police report.

Firefighters responded to the 200 block of La Terraza Boulevard in Escondido to battle a brush fire that broke out around 2:30 p.m. Sunday next to a SpringHill Suites Hotel near Interstate 15 and W Valley Parkway.

Firefighters were able to stop the brush fire at one-half acre before it spread further, police said.

Escondido Police confirmed the brush fire is being investigated as possible arson.
