Rob Kardashian Reveals Why He Stepped Away From TV in Rare Interview
It’s the kameo Kardashians fans have been waiting for.
While Rob Kardashian tends to keep a more private profile, he recently resurfaced on sister Khloe Kardashian’s podcast. And considering it’s been almost a decade since he’s starred alongside her, siblings Kourtney Kardashian, Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Kylie Jenner and mom Kris Jenner, followers had a few questions.
Like, why doesn’t he film anymore, and was there any family drama that led him to step back?
“There’s definitely nothing wrong between any of us,” Rob clarified on the July 16 episode of Khloé in Wonder Land. “It just has everything to do with myself. I don’t wanna be filming and putting myself in a position where I’m not comfortable. I’m not comfortable in my skin, so why would I wanna go be on camera and just be vulnerable and let people in when that’s not what I wanna do?”
Now, he’s focused less on the title of reality TV star and more on the role of dad to his and ex Blac Chyna‘s 8-year-old daughter Dream Kardashian.
“It’s definitely changed me,” Rob said about becoming a father. “It’s definitely made me more grounded and instead of focusing my energy on a lot of other things, I’m all about, obviously, my daughter. I mean, that’s just what it is. That’s what you have to be.”
Though he’s more than happy to do the job.
“I’m very lucky,” Rob shared on Khloe’s podcast. “Dream makes it very easy. She’s very smart and she’s a good kid, but it’s still very hard.”
He’s also perfectly content with it being just the two of them—noting that while he does “talk to people” he isn’t seriously dating.
“I have a daughter. I’m trying to be a good example. I don’t bring girls in the house. I don’t have girls meet my daughter,” the Arthur George founder said. “But I’ve always been that since she was a baby. She’s 8 years old. I’ve been single for eight years since she’s been born. Yes, of course I’ve dated. But I’ve never gotten serious or wanted to. My energy is just into Dream.”
Though it had been a minute since Rob gave fans an update on his life, Khloe understands why this would be the case.
“My brother loves to be a little elusive,” she explained on the April episode of her podcast. “I call him the Wizard from The Wizard of Oz ‘cause he likes to be behind the curtain. We all live in the same gated area, so he lives right next door to me.”
And while Rob might not make it into every family photo, KoKo reassured fans he’s definitely in the picture.
“I love all my siblings, but I think with Rob, I identify with him so much,” the Good American mogul told Bustle in December. “I feel so deeply what he feels — the struggles that he has, or just wanting to be out of the public eye, or just feeling like he doesn’t fit in or is being judged about his appearance. I feel like we were raised in pairs: It was Kourtney and Kim, and then it was me and Rob, and then Kendall and Kylie. And I just feel like we are both each other’s protectors. I love him so much. It’s just innate.”
Of course, his mom is happy to gush about him too.
“You are the most incredible son a mother could ever ask for and one of the most loving, generous, kind, caring men I’ve ever known,” Kris wrote in an Instagram tribute for Rob’s birthday last year. “You will never know how much of my heart you hold.”
And she especially loves watching him be a dad.
“You are not only an amazing son but the world’s best daddy to Dream, and she loves you so much!!!!” the momager continued. “It is such a joy to see you grow as a father with every year that goes by, and I hope you know how proud I am of you every single day. I am so SO blessed and I thank God that he chose me to be your mommy. I am the luckiest mother in the whole world!!!!”
And when it comes to raising Dream, Chyna revealed in January that she and Rob “have a beautiful, healthy co-parenting relationship.”
So for now, it looks like fans will have to stick to just seeing Rob in rare Instagram posts, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameos and the occasional phone call for Khloe’s podcast.
But maybe they’ll be keeping up with him on camera again one day.
“I do think Rob would come back to the show,” Khloe said on a 2023 episode of The Kardashians. “He talks about it a lot. He does. But I do know Rob has been through a lot personally. But he’s literally the best dad I know, and I’m so proud of him for that. And I know that’s he’s just feeling good about himself, and I’m happy for him. So, I have faith that soon he’ll be back on the show.”
Until then, keep up with more of Rob’s photos from over the years.
