If you’re going to take cooking advice from anyone, let it be culinary icon Nancy Silverton. The owner of several world-famous restaurants and author of nine (yes, nine) cookbooks, Nancy revealed her must-have kitchen items to E! News—and they’re all on sale during Amazon’s Big Spring Sale.
Of all the cooking utensils available, there are two that Nancy calls “life changing.” She’s talking about a humble microplane and classic mortar and pastle.
Nancy likes to keep things simple and cord-free, which is why these two items hold such special place in the trailblazing chef’s heart. “I am not a fan of any kind of kitchen gadget that plugs in, so [these are] right in my wheelhouse,” she explains.
She will make one exception, though: “I do love my KitchenAid mixer.” The chef’s favorite plug-in appliance is also deeply discounted on Amazon right now.
Cook like Nancy Silverton and save on her “life changing” kitchen items now at Amazon’s Big Spring Sale.
Orblue Microplane
This highly-rated mircoplane gets the Silverton stamp of approval. The razor-sharp, stainless steel blades can grate just about anything in seconds flat. “I use them for anything from zest, to cheese, to grating garlic. I love it all,” exclaims Nancy.
More from Nancy: “I love that there are so many configurations now to the holes themselves. So there’s a small, medium, and large which all have their places. There are also ribbons and slashes. I probably own six of every single kind of microplane and I’m always looking for a better handle and a better weight to them, but they’re all great.”
E-liu Porcelain Mortar and Pestle Set
Nancy’s love of a mortar and pestle dates back to her culinary school days at Le Cordon Bleu in London. She prefers porcelain options, like this on-sale pick with bamboo accents and convenient spout. The chef says the heavy porcelain mortar is actually more ideal for mixing dressings because lightweight mixing bowls tend to “flop around the counter.”
More from Nancy: “I love making things in mortar and pestles. I use them for making all my pounded sauces, like pestos and nut-based sauces, to green sauces, to using just the heavy bowl of that mortar with a whisk to make any kind of emulsified dressing or mayonnaise-based dressing.”
KitchenAid Classic Series 4.5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer
This KitchenAid mixer is Nancy’s exception to her no cord rule. Shop the do-it-all gadget that mixes, kneads, and whips now and save $100.
HexClad Hybrid Nonstick 7-Inch Frying Pan
Nancy was always anti-teflon until she met this HexClad pan perfect for frying eggs. “What’s great about HexClad is that even though it’s teflon, it’s stainless-steel based, which makes a huge difference for conducting heat,” she says.
More from Nancy: “I think that they are really terrific, well-made and have a lifetime guarantee, and that’s a huge asset when it comes to pans.”
8-Piece Wooden Spoon Set
“I really love flat, heavy-duty wooden spoons,” says Nancy, and this set of eight will so chic sitting atop your counter. She also raves they make a great housewarming gift.
