Renowned chef Sandy Daza embarks on a food crawl across Asia in search of beloved comfort food in the curated episode of “FoodPrints,” airing this Saturday (February 7) at 8:30pm on Metro Channel. 

His first stop is Bangkok in Thailand, where he visits Charoensaeng Silom, a Michelin-recognized food stall, and tries the khau kha mhu, a slow-braised pork leg known for its tenderness and mild sweetness. Chef Sandy also tries the crab fried rice at Here Hai, a Michelin Bib Gourmand-recognized restaurant along Echami Road. 

Next on his itinerary is Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam, where he visits the Mai Home Saigon Culinary Arts Center and learns about the art of cooking authentic beef pho. He also goes to Ben Thanh Market, the most popular market in Saigon, for a taste of the popular Vietnamese sandwich banh mi. 

Another stop in this episode is the city of Yangon in Myanmar to try various local eats, including fried shan tofu and shan tofu salad, a popular crispy crepe called khonte mont, and a ‘gangster’ crepe called lan teh yeh mont. He also visits Bagan to explore street food favorites in the ancient city.  

Chef Sandy also goes on a hawker crawl in Singapore and tries out a steamed rice cake with preserved radish called chwee kway, a steamed rice roll with sweet sesame sauce named chee cheong fun, the Singaporean version of fresh lumpia called popiah, and a hot bowl of prawn mee.

“FoodPrints” likewise makes a flavorful journey in Japan with Chef Sandy trying some of the best Japanese bites, including Hiroshima oysters. He also heads to the famous Ramen Alley in Hokkaido, where he tries scallop ramen in Ichikura and Hokkaido pork chashu miso ramen in Teshikaga.
