Ashton Kutcher Addresses Rumors He and Wife Mila Kunis Don’t Shower
Ashton Kutcher is done letting his past comments soak.
Nearly five years after the That ‘70s Show alum and his wife Mila Kunis sparked rumors that they don’t regularly shower, he addressed the discourse about their bathing habits.
“It was the craziest thing of all time,” Ashton told People in an interview published Jan. 19. “We made a comment at one point, and people were like, ‘Does he stink? Does he smell?'”
However, the 47-year-old turned the faucet off on the rumors, which prompted a crowd to chant “Take a shower” during his September 2021 appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay.
“People are like, ‘They don’t shower,’” he continued. “I’m like, ‘I shower, I go to the gym, I shower.'”
As for what prompted Ashton and Mila to be at the center of the hygiene debate? During a joint July 2021 appearance on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, the couple made light of their in-shower experience while debating whether using a bar of soap is healthy for the body’s natural skin oils.
“I don’t wash my body with soap every day,” Mila said at the time. “But I wash pits and t-ts and holes and soles.”
The Black Swan actress, who grew up in Ukraine, added, “I didn’t have hot water growing up as a child, so I didn’t shower very much anyway.”
And Ashton admitted he also takes a minimalist approach.

“I wash my armpits and my crotch daily, and nothing else ever,” he added. “I got a bar of Lever 2000 that just delivers every time. Nothing else.”
Then, Mila—who shares daughter Wyatt Isabell, 11, and son Dimitri Portwood, 9, with Ashton—explained that she expanded her shower mentality to her parenting approach.
“When I had children, I also didn’t wash them every day,” she said. “I wasn’t the parent that bathed my newborns—ever.”
Agreeing with his wife, Ashton added, “Now, here’s the thing: If you can see the dirt on them, clean them. Otherwise, there’s no point.”

Mila Kunis & Ashton Kutcher
Back in July 2021, the couple sparked a conversation about bathing habits when they shared their preference on the Armchair Expert podcast. “I don’t wash my body with soap every day,” Mila shared. As for her husband, “I wash my armpits and my crotch daily, and nothing else ever,” Ashton admitted.
In January 2026, though, the That ’70s Show alum cleared the air while looking back at the rumors.
“It was the craziest thing of all time,” Ashton told People at the time. “We made a comment at one point, and people were like, ‘Does he stink? Does he smell?'”
He added, “I’m like, ‘I shower, I go to the gym, I shower.'”

“More and more I find bathing to be less necessary, at times,” the Donnie Darko alum told Vanity Fair in 2021. “I do also think that there’s a whole world of not bathing that is also really helpful for skin maintenance, and we naturally clean ourselves.”

“Nope, I’m the opposite of a ‘not washing themselves’ celeb,” the Jungle Cruise star revealed in a 2021 post on X, then known as Twitter. “Shower (cold) when I roll outta bed to get my day rollin’. Shower (warm) after my workout before work. Shower (hot) after I get home from work. Face wash, body wash, exfoliate and I sing (off key) in the shower.”

“We bathed our children every single night—prior to bed is like the routine,” Dax shared on The View in 2021. “And then somehow, they just started going to sleep on their own without the routine, and by George, we had to start saying, ‘Hey, when’s the last time you bathed them?'”
Added Kristen, “I’m a big fan of waiting for the stink. Once you catch a whiff, that’s biology’s way of letting you know you need to clean it up.”

“Is it ok if I admit that my daughter bathing daily is a firm rule in my house?” the former Real Housewives of New York City star shared on X in 2021.”Bathing is cleansing, relaxing & helps with sleep. I have instilled in her a good hygiene routine since birth. Am I canceled for this radical approach?”

“I’m not starting any trends, I shower, trust me, I shower,” the Aquaman star told Access Hollywood in 2021. “I’m Aquaman, I’m in the f–king water, don’t worry about it. I’m Hawaiian, we got saltwater on me, we good.”

While filming Inglourious Basterds, the actor offered some unconventional hygiene tips for his costars. “He shared that when you’re sweating and don’t have time to take a shower, you just take a baby wipe and rub it under your armpits,” friend Eli Roth told People in 2009. “After a scene, Brad had to get next to me for a close-up shot, and he said, ‘Damn, you’re ripe.'” I said, ‘I didn’t have time to shower.’ He said, ‘Baby wipes, man, baby wipes.'”
