Katie Bates and Travis Clark are navigating a difficult time in their marriage.
The Bringing Up Bates alum’s husband—whom she wed in 2021—admitted to cheating on his wife one day after she shared that they suffered a devastating pregnancy loss.
“This is hard to write, but I owe the truth and I owe an apology,” Travis, 24, wrote in a post on his Instagram Stories Jan. 17. “I was unfaithful to my wife. I had an affair and repeatedly broke her trust. There is no excuse for what I did. This was my failure and my responsibility alone.”
“I know that words don’t begin to express the damage I caused or the depth of the hurt I’ve brought into her life, but I am truly sorry,” he continued. “I’m sorry for the pain, humiliation, and betrayal I caused my wife through my choices. I understand that an apology doesn’t repair what I broke, and forgiveness is not something I deserve or can ask for.”
Along with expressing remorse, Travis shared that he is “taking responsibility by getting help” in order to “become a more honest and accountable man.”
“I ask for privacy and grace for Katie,” he concluded, “as she processes this in her own time.”
One day prior to the confession, Katie shared that she and Travis—who are parents to Hailey, 2, and Harvey, 15 months—experienced another hardship, as they were expecting a third baby before recently losing their pregnancy.
In a video posted on Instagram Jan. 16, the 25-year-old offered a glimpse at the moment she initially discovered she was expecting via a positive pregnancy test, revealing the news to Travis by displaying the test alongside a stuffed teddy bear, white balloons, an off-white knit onesie and a pair of white baby booties.
But after showcasing more happy moments—including Hailey kissing Katie’s belly—the video showed the reality star attending a doctor’s appointment, wiping tears from her cheeks while laying in a hospital bed. The post then showed her holding hands with a loved one as she whispered, “I just lost my baby.”
Katie seemed to lean on her kids for support, gently rocking Harvey and stroking his hair. Still, her heartbreak was evident as she wrote in the caption of the post, “I will spend the rest of my life missing you.”
