ESCONDIDO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — An older man who uses oxygen was found dead in an Escondido home after a fire broke out on Saturday afternoon.

According to Escondido Police, a maintenance man called 911 to report a fire that broke out in a home in the 600 block of South Upas Street in Escondido.

Around 10 units from the Escondido police and fire departments responded to the scene around 4 p.m. Saturday and found an older man dead in the home, the police department confirmed.

According to police, the deceased man’s family and the maintenance man reportedly told police the man had been previously warned about smoking while using his oxygen tank.

The fatal fire is under investigation by Escondido Police and Fire.
