Over P1.9-B damage to agri due to Crising, Dante, Emong, Habagat –NDRRMC

More than P1.9 billion worth of agriculture were damaged due to combined effects of the southwest monsoon and tropical cyclones Crising, Dante, and Emong, according to data from National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Wednesday. 

In its Situational Report No. 26 dated July 30, NDRRMC said the production loss or cost of damage reached P1,960,474,286.32 affecting 66,989 farmers and fisherfolks.

The most affected was Region 3 posting P1,105,731,824.39 damage to agriculture; followed by Region 4B (MIMAROPA) with 190,461,873.31; Region 1 with P155,786,034.97; Region 4A (CALABARZON) with 146,738,657.04; Negros Island Region with P97,265,558.58; Region 6 with P83,204,081.20; Region 2 with P76,411,047; Region 12 with 58,681,824; Region 5 with P44,914,911.19. 

Meanwhile, the estimated cost of damage to infrastructure was at P9,499,410,993.514. Affected areas were Regions 1, 2, 3, Cordillera Administrative Region, 4A, 4B, 5, 6, NIR, and 10.

A total of 37,557 houses were also damaged in Regions 1, 2, CAR, 3, 4A, 4B, 5, 6, NIR, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, CARAGA, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

NDRRMC noted that the decrease in figure was due to ongoing validation and verification.

The tropical cyclones and Habagat also affected 2,064,096 families or 7,457,942 persons. Of the number, 32,332 families or 113,438 persons were served inside 1,145 evacuation centers and 23,967 families or 90,617 persons were served outside evacuation centers.

Thirty-four people were reported dead, of which two have been validated while 32 are still being validated. Seven people were reported missing while 22 were injured.— AOL, GMA Integrated News
