We caught up with Rebecca Minkoff herself to chat about her new line.

Rebecca told E!, she was inspired to design at a more affordable price point after “hearing from my customers and knowing that we have a lot working against us with inflation, taxes, tariffs — that make it hard for the average American to afford groceries, let alone extraneous things like clothing,” she said. “So [I really wanted] to make sure that I can offer great fashion at an affordable price point.”

So what’s the vibe of JCPenney’s new RM Rebecca Minkoff line?

“I’d say that the Rebecca Minkoff woman remains the same,” Rebecca said. “She’s confident, fearless, optimistic. She has a sense of masculine, feminine, of bohemian and rock, so this line is for that person who embodies that spirit and who likes a stud, who likes a moto jacket, who likes the leather accessory to her look, but never a woman who wants to be plastered with logos or a gold plaque on her bag.”

“I love the Tahoe hobo bag,” Rebecca said. “Believe it or not, I have not worn a hobo bag in a long time, and I’m really into them right now.”

“The Jackson satchel is really great because it gives you this sort of moto vibe,” Rebecca said. “It’s in this distressed-looking fabric. I’m beginning to see [satchels] come back, and so that’s exciting for me because that’s what I launched with 20 years ago.”

“As we’re getting into fall and holiday, these have a touch of studding on them, which makes them great,” Rebecca said. “You can easily wear them during the day with a pair of black jeans, but you could dress them up with a pair of trousers or a mini dress, which I think is cute.” 

“Everyone needs an over-the-knee boot in their closet, and for [$54] I’d say that’s pretty good,” Rebecca said.

“I think there’s been a resurgence of fringe and the boho look, and fringe has always been one of the identifiers of my brand, but when it’s not trending, it’s a little hard to push it,” Rebecca said. “I’m happy that it’s back again from a trend perspective, so now we get to welcome it back into our closets.” 

“[This jean] has a bunch of studding down the side, but still has the trend of the wide leg, which I’m so happy it’s here, and I hope it doesn’t go away,” Rebecca said.
