The Local Government of Taytay, under the leadership of Mayor Allan de Leon, continues to take serious and strategic action to address environmental issues and community health.

In a recent inspection, Mayor Allan, together with Councilors JV Valera, Joan Calderon, Patrick Alcantara, and key municipal staff, officially presented four brand-new trucks that will support the operations of the Sagip Ilog Program and Waste Collection Team.

These trucks are specially designed for cleaning and clearing rivers, canals, and drainage systems—a vital step in preventing flooding and promoting a healthier urban environment.

What Do These Trucks Do?

These vehicles will be used to:

  • Collect solid waste from rivers, creeks, and drainage channels

  • Clear out debris and silt that block water flow

  • Transport waste efficiently to proper disposal and treatment facilities

  • Support rapid response during heavy rains or emergency situations

Why This Matters:

Taytay, like many rapidly growing urban areas, faces increasing challenges when it comes to:

  1. Waste buildup in waterways

  2. Frequent flooding during rainy seasons

  3. Health risks caused by poor sanitation

  4. Environmental degradation and water pollution

With the new trucks in operation, the local government is better equipped to respond to these problems and minimize their impact on communities.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Improper waste disposal is one of the leading causes of flooding in Metro Manila and nearby towns.

  • A blocked drainage system can flood a barangay in just 30 minutes of heavy rain.

  • Clean waterways reduce the risk of waterborne diseases like cholera, dengue, and leptospirosis.

  • Waste that ends up in rivers often flows into Manila Bay, harming marine life and ecosystems.

From Mayor Allan de Leon:

“This is a smart investment in public safety and environmental protection. These trucks are a result of the people’s taxes, and we are making sure every peso goes to projects that have long-term benefits for the community.”

How You Can Help:

???? Dispose of garbage properly—especially plastics and food waste
???? Never dump trash in rivers, canals, or storm drains
???? Participate in barangay clean-up drives or environmental campaigns
???? Report clogged waterways or illegal dumping to your barangay or LGU hotline
???? Educate others—help neighbors, students, and children understand why clean waterways matter

This project is part of Taytay’s broader commitment to #SerbisyongMayNgiti—a local government that serves with purpose, transparency, and heart.

Together, we can build a Taytay that’s not only clean, but resilient, healthy, and future-ready.
