Dezeen Showroom: US textile company Designtex worked with American homeware brand West Elm on a trio of upholstery materials that are hard-wearing enough to be used in high-traffic interiors.

Template, Acre and Marl are the result of the seventh collaboration between West Elm and Designtex, which sees the combination of the brands’ aesthetic and manufacturing specialisms come together.

Acre and Template are both made in the USA, with the former featuring an “architectural yet crafted” surface pattern available in five colourways, and the latter decorated with alternating squares and circles that comes in 12 colourways.

Marl comes in 18 colourways and is named after the marled – or two-tone – yarn used in the fabric’s warp and weft. All three materials can be cleaned with bleach, allowing them to withstand the heavy use in public environments.

“With the latest additions to the growing West Elm x Designtex offering, we wanted to create textiles that feel completely liveable – grounded in texture, approachable in colour and inherently versatile,” said Eve Singer, Designtex’s principal designer.

“Each pattern was designed to balance visual character with performance, so designers can layer, mix, and trust them in a wide range of spaces.”
