Deep Dive on All the First-Time Emmy-Nominated Actors: Harrison Ford, Zoë Kravitz & More
This is Sterling K. Brown…injured and on a scooter.
The This Is Us alum surprised fans when he took the Emmys 2025 stage at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles on Sept. 14 looking a little banged up. (See every star on the Emmys red carpet here.)
Joined by his Paradise costars Julianne Nicholson and James Marsden to announce a TV directing category, Brown wheeled onto the stage with the help of a steerable knee wagon as he could only walk with one of his legs. Despite having an injured left leg, the 49-year-old was all smiles as he rode into the award ceremony, which was hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze. (See the full list of 2025 winners here.)
As for how the Emmy winner hurt himself?
Earlier this week, Brown shared that he tore his left Achilles heel during an athletic event, even revealing he’s postponing surgery so that he could attend this year’s Emmy Awards.
“Ya boy just tore his Achilles tendon,” Brown said in a Sept. 9 Instagram video, explaining that the “recovery can take a little bit of time.”
The actor recounted how he simply took a step and “it felt like stomped on the back of my heel.”
“Gotta have surgery,” he continued. “Gonna do it after the Emmys, so I can motivate myself and go and try to celebrate with my cast and the producers of Paradise, because we got recognized, and it would be nice to be out there.”

And being bed-ridden for the time being has certainly been a tough adjustment for the active star.
“It’s one of those things where, when you’re used to using your body a certain way, used to be an athlete,” he explained, adding, “most people who know me, if I’m not going to an event, I’m usually wearing athleisure wear.”
Until Brown shares the next update on his injury, keep reading to see every winner from the Emmy Awards 2025.
