SAN DIEGO (FOX5/KUSI)–The San Diego Padres are teaming up with Motorola to host the baseball club’s annual back-to-school shopping spree event Tuesday.
This time, the Pads will be showering the unhoused children and families of the Monarch School Project with fresh outfits for the upcoming school year. The shopping extravaganza takes place from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Sept. 2 at the Walmart in Kearny Mesa, located off Shawline Street.
Established in 1987, the Monarch School Project in the Barrio Logan area is dedicated to providing a sense of belonging to unhoused youth and their families throughout San Diego County. The kindergarten through 12th-grade program offers a range of unique programs and services designed to empower youth to succeed.
And what better way to teach success than to go shopping with a couple of professional athletes?
The Padres who will be going shopping with the students are outfielder Bryce Johnson, pitchers Jason Adam, Mason Miller, Adrian Morejon and Nick Pivetta. The Padres’ CEO, Erik Greupner, and the Padres Foundation’s president, Tom Seidler, will also be in attendance.
The students participating, who are in first through fifth grade, will be able to stock up on essential clothing items such as pants, shirts, shoes, socks and underwear of their choice.
After an afternoon of retail therapy, the kids will be served a satisfying lunch, provided complimentary by Chick-fil-A.
