SAN DIEGO (FOX5/KUSI)–Adult softball fees have dramatically increased in the City of San Diego recently because of the city budget deficit.
Some of the Lit field fees have more than tripled from $138 to $393 per team.
According to Mitch McNamara from the SoCAL Adult Softball League, they had spoken with Parks and Rec about a 19.5 percent increase in April.
Now, the city has raised it 200 percent, which McNamara says places a significant burden on their 200-plus teams, leading to higher player costs, fewer leagues, and a reduction in programming.
He is encouraging people to voice their concerns to their local City Council members and the San Diego Mayor’s office about these fee changes.
He is hoping for a compromise from council members to reduce the fees.
There is a council meeting Tuesday, which he is urging people to attend to bring attention to the cause.
