Trinity Rodman Speaks Out on Boyfriend Ben Shelton’s Injury Following 2025 US Open Retirement
Trinity Rodman is cheering on her boyfriend Ben Shelton both on and off the court.
Hours after the tennis star was forced to retire from the 2025 US Open due to an injury to his left shoulder, Trinity—who made confirmed her romance with Ben earlier this year—shared a sweet message of support.
“You are strength and dedication,” she wrote of her boyfriend on her Instagram Stories Aug. 30. “I love you and you’ll be back stronger.”
As for what happened that took Shelton out of the US Open? On day six of the national championships, he had to retire from his third-round match with Adrian Mannarino after he seemingly over-exerted himself and grabbed his left side.
“I never retired before,” Ben said during a press conference following the Aug. 29 match, per CNN. “I’m not a guy who would retire if I could continue.”
And because Adrian, who ultimately won the match, was not on the court when he learned he won the Men’s Singles match, he joked that it was his “first time winning the match from the toilets.”
“When he started to have pain, he was leading,” the French athlete said of Ben at the time. “Honestly, he probably would have won that match. It’s unfortunate for him and very lucky for me, but I don’t really know what to say. I’m happy to get through. I wish him the best, of course.”
While Trinity is now supporting her boyfriend during his recovery, she has been his No. 1 fan every step of the way—even if that meant roasting him during an occasional post-match press conference.
“So,” she began during an Aug. 24 post-game interview, shortly after Ben defeated Spain’s Pablo Carreño Busta, “how did it feel not being able to serve faster than 135 today?”
Upon seeing his girlfriend, he laughed and turned to someone off screen to ask, “Why’d you give her a question?”
Nonetheless, Trinity continued, “I just know you like to serve big, and it wasn’t breaking 140 today.”

Leaning into the bit, the 22-year-old responded, “It was cold outside today, so I think that was you know the main reason. I was focused on hitting spots. I didn’t hit those spots, so maybe I should just serve bigger. Something that I’ll definitely work on next time.”
Then, he quipped, “Let anyone in the room at this point, huh?”
And aside from the pair’s playful banter, Ben has made it clear that he’s grateful to have Trinity by his side. In fact, he reserved a special shoutout for her after his first-round win.
“My girlfriend took the red eye from California last night to be here,” he said from the court following his win against Ignacio Buse Aug. 25. “So, we’re here for the long haul, just looking forward to it.”
