Dezeen Showroom: Romanian furniture brand Mozea aimed to push the boundaries of what is possible with solid wood by creating this accent chair characterised by dynamic, curved forms.
Mozea‘s in-house designer Mihaela Shimon set out to create an evolution of the brand’s earlier dining chair design with the Locus armchair, exaggerating the original seat’s proportions to create maximum visual impact.
“While the original design transmits an elegant, refined personality that complements its space without overpowering it, this armchair version takes that energy and expands it, becoming more grounded, generous – inviting you to sit and experience it,” said Mozea.
Realising the armchair design in solid wood required meeting a few technical challenges – the concave seat had to be supported with a hidden cross-lamination technique to maintain its strength and prevent warping.
At the same time, the backrest design was slimmed down to accentuate the slimness where it transitions into the back legs, resulting in a strong yet sculptural piece.
“Made for spaces where it can breathe, the Locus armchair fits beautifully in a quiet lounge or next to a sofa in a home that’s not heavily crowded,” said Mozea. “Its presence is artistic, bold and refined. A chair not just to sit in, but to feel.”
