Why ‘Survivor’s Jeff Probst Let Mike White Back for Season 50 After ‘White Lotus’ Success
These 18 castaways are ready to outwit, outplay and outlast.
Survivor has revealed the cast of season 49, set to premiere in September.
Among the new contestants competing for the $1 million prize in Fiji are a Washington, D.C. political comms director, a California law clerk, a musician from Austin, Texas, a rocket scientist from Denver, Colorado, and a fitness trainer based in San Diego, California.
They’ll be going head-to-head in physical and social game play against a social worker, a wellness specialist and an airport ramp agent, among others.
In addition to intense challenges, surprise twists and game-changing advantages, season 49 will continue “to prove both the ultimate test of physical and mental will, as well as the adventure of a lifetime, for castaways stranded on the beaches of Fiji,” according to CBS’ Aug. 20 announcement. The cast will also be “tasked with forming a new society, adapting to their surroundings and navigating an unpredictable social game to ensure their torch stays lit.”
Plus, longtime host Jeff Probst will return to guide the hopefuls along their journey for a life-changing prize.
As previously announced, two of the season 49 players will return for Survivor‘s milestone 50th season—dubbed Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans—in 2026 along with 22 other past competitors and winners.
Notable alums returning are The White Lotus creator Mike White, previous winners Dee Valladares and Kyle Fraser, Cirie Fields, Ozzy Lusth, Benjamin “Coach” Wade, Aubry Bracco and returning season 48 contestant Kamilla Karthigesu.

As for White making his return to Fiji after coming in second place during season 37 in 2018, Probst recently shed insight into inviting the Emmy-winning TV star back for Survivor 50 next year.
“He’s arguably the single best storyteller we’ve ever had on Survivor,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published August 7. “Mike is one of the most peculiar and loving people I’ve ever met. He’s so authentic. He does exactly what he wants on his terms, and the results clearly speak for themselves. And honestly, I’m grateful to consider him a friend, because I learn from Mike every day. You’re talking [about] one of the best of all time.”
Probst added, “The fact that he said yes to Survivor still brings a smile on my face.”

Survivor season 49 premieres Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
