Proof Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi Are Embracing London Life Like True Brits
Heads up, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are marking a major milestone.
In honor of the former talk show host’s 17th wedding anniversary, she shared a clip from her and the Arrested Development alum’s 2008 nuptials.
“Happy 17th anniversary of the best day of my life,” Ellen wrote alongside the clip, which was shown on The Ellen DeGeneres Show at the time. “Portia, I love you more everyday.”
Reminiscing about their ceremony coming two months after same-sex marriage was legalized in California—and nearly seven years before it was legal across the United States—she added, “#MarriageForAll.”
The couple’s latest anniversary comes amid a year of major change, with them moving to the British countryside—where they have already settled into a new routine.
It’s absolutely beautiful,” Ellen, 67, explained to the audience at a July 20 event with broadcaster Richard Bacon, per the BBC. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture—everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.”
She added, “It’s clean. Everything here is just better—the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here.”
But amid the quiet life in the Cotswolds, Ellen’s isn’t fully stepping away from the spotlight—despite suggesting in her 2024 stand-up special she was “done” with Hollywood.
In fact, during her rare public event, she admitted she is “very carefully” considering her next move.

“I just don’t know what that is yet,” Ellen teased. “I want to have fun, I want to do something. I do like my chickens but I’m a little bit bored.”
And while when it comes to talk shows Ellen would “love to do that again,” she doesn’t think it’s necessarily in the cards.
“I would do the same thing here,” she noted. “I just feel like people are watching on their phones, or people aren’t really paying attention as much to televisions, because we’re so inundated with information and entertainment.”
