Filipino singer-songwriter Paolo Sandejas has tapped indie-folk favorite Clara Benin for the new version of “Roses,” a standout track from his recently released debut album, the world is so small.

The easygoing collaboration was first teased through a joint Instagram reel, followed by the reveal of single’s cover art that featured both artists in a reflective moment, listening to a vinyl in front of a thoughtfully decorated wall.

Roses has always felt like a special track to me—one that deserves its spotlight,” Paolo shares. “I thought Clara’s voice and songwriting sensibilities would be a perfect match, and I’m so grateful she was on board. Working with her, even remotely, was a dream. I sincerely hope we get to collaborate again.”

Though they weren’t able to record together in person, the two artists met over Zoom and exchanged ideas and recordings virtually. The original version of “Roses” was written by Paolo, who is now based in Los Angeles, with longtime collaborator Xergio Ramos producing the track. Clara’s contributions went beyond vocals; she also honed the harmonies and vocal arrangements, making the collaboration a true creative exchange.

“I think it’s always a good idea to work with other artists,” Paolo explains. “You can only explore so much alone, but collaborating with others opens up new creative outlets.”

Written during a period of personal uncertainty, “Roses” captures a moment of emotional vulnerability and growth. For Paolo, the song became both a catharsis and a source of comfort during a transitional phase in his early twenties.

“Writing this song was the self-pep talk I needed to remind myself that it’s okay to not have every little thing planned out,” he recalls.

Paolo continues, “I think it’s truly that breath of fresh air in my discography. From the writing to the production, it was therapy for me to write this track, and I hope it reaches anyone who needs it.”

The new version of “Roses” by Paolo Sandejas (with Clara Benin) is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.
