Dezeen Showroom: the elegant simplicity of steam-bent solid wood defines the Miko armchair, created by designer Tsuguji Sasaki for Thai brand Bendi Bangkok.

The Miko armchair rejects sharp angles in favour of a sweeping ash, oak or beech wood frame, including a gently waved backrest that follows the contour of the spine.

The chair’s frame is made using steam bending, one of the brand’s areas of expertise.

“This method allows us to form a seamless, natural-looking, lightweight and durable frame,” said Bendi Bangkok. “Both the backrest and armrests are bent from a single piece of wood, resulting in a smooth, uninterrupted surface and refined tactile experience.”

The Miko armchair is designed for both residential and commercial environments, and its bentwood structure can accommodate one of three different types of seat back, making it an efficient and modular design.

It is available in a range of fabric and synthetic leather upholstery options.
