January Jones Weighs in on Jon Stewart’s “Daily Show” Exit
Betty Draper has had her fair share of drama with advertising sharks.
But in real life, January Jones has a touching relationship with the creatures of the deep sea. In fact, the Mad Men alum included her son Xander, 13, in her advocacy work at Oceana’s SeaChange Summer Party in California July 26, marking a rare public outing for the teen.
“So excited to celebrate Oceana’s 23rd birthday and attend @oceanaseachange last night!” January wrote on her July 28 Instagram post. “Sharks are my 2nd favorite animal. They’re iconic, powerful, and essential to the health of our oceans. But they’re also under threat.”
In the post, the 47-year-old shared a photo of her and Xander—whose face is hidden behind a blue heart emoji—together at the event, where they helped the campaign “to protect sharks and keep our oceans healthy.”
And if her work with the organization wasn’t enough, January also shared an impressive shot of her swimming with sharks over the years.
The mother-son duo were also photographed at the party’s red carpet, where they came dressed to the nines. The X-Men: First Class alum wore a black dress and matching heels, her former pixie cut now a straight bob. Xander, meanwhile, opted for an all-white casual look.
While January previously brought her son along as her plus one to the event back in 2021, she has largely kept her son away from the spotlight. She has, however, made sure to publicly celebrate his milestones, including for his birthday in September 2023.
“Happy Birthday to my child,” she wrote on Instagram at the time, adding a lighthearted shot of him dancing outside of Nobu in Malibu Beach. “So proud to be yours. Couldn’t love you more.”

Over the years, January has also shared the occasional insight into her life as a single parent.
“Xander has a lot of bro time with the neighbor dads and my dad, who is super young,” she told Red magazine in September 2017. “It’s good to have strong women around a man to teach him to respect women. He doesn’t have a male person saying, ‘Don’t cry,’ or ‘You throw like a girl.’ All those sh—y things that dads accidentally do.”
