Dezeen Showroom: a mid-century Scandinavian bar stool originally created in 1960 by Norwegian designer Torbjørn Bekken has now been re-released by Eikund.

Available in the US through retailer Lekker Home, the Veng bar stool is a continuation of Bekken’s Veng line of seating, united by scooping, sculptural upholstered backrests.

The Veng bar stool has a strong mid-century style

Eikund describes the solid oak stool as having an easily recognisable personality and organic clean lines.

Bekken created the Veng series while working for the influential design company Rastad & Relling Tegnekontor, where the designer spent most of his career.

While the designer is not well known, the company is seen as one of the pioneers of Norwegian mid-century design, and Bekken’s work was essential to its output.

The bar stool is the tallest member of the Veng family, which also includes dining and lounge chairs and a counter stool.
