Dezeen Showroom: designed for both lounging and hosting guests, Christian Werner‘s Prado sofa for Ligne Roset has a distinctively relaxed aesthetic.
Launched in 2014, the Prado sofa features weighted cushions instead of a fixed backrest, allowing the seating support to be repositioned or removed as desired.
Werner designed the sofa after reflecting on his own needs in his home studio, where he wanted to unwind with wine and music and sit in carefree poses with his feet up on the seats.
Prado intends to facilitate freedom and flexibility, with no attachment points that might constrain the placement of the back cushions – only a discreet anti-slip underside that keeps them in position.
The cushions can also easily be used on the floor, while the seats have mattress-like ticking on their reverse side to make the sofa into a guest bed when needed.
“Typically the design process surrounding a new sofa is heavily focused on aesthetic research,” said Ligne Roset.
“Prado represents a departure from this school of thought completely. Prado has first and foremost been designed based on the study of lifestyles and human nature.”
